Charity’s Closet - How to Be Involved - Volunteer
Charity’s Closet is an ALL-Volunteer organization. The shop is managed, staffed, and supported by over 70 volunteers. Our volunteers fill the following:
Regular Roles
- Managers
- At this time there are two Co-Managers who oversee all aspects of the shop and staff.
- Day Managers
- There are about 14 Day Managers, who in turn, assume responsibility for running the shop for a specific day. Some work once each week, others work twice a month or once a month. In addition, this group acts as the management team to help with setting policy and making operational decisions.
- Category Specialists
- This group is comprised of the heads of each type of item we sell in the shop (i.e. women’s clothing, housewares, shoes,) They oversee what merchandise goes on the floor in their area, the sorting and pricing.
- General Volunteers
- These people do a variety of things – mainly work on the sales floor or in the back sorting and accepting donations. This is usually a half-day shift.
- Monday volunteers
- This group works each week to prepare the shop and back room for the next week. Donations are still accepted, but the shop is not open to customers. This is an opportunity to drop in and help any time.

Our necessary support volunteers:
Dispersals - This volunteer takes the merchandise not suited for our shop to other ministries which still benefit the needy.
- Furniture Team
- They assess the suitability for the shop, whether a donation comes to the shop or goes to storage, and are responsible for arrangement in the shop.
Volunteer Needs
- Ebay Researcher/Seller
- We don’t do a lot with Ebay, but there is the occasional piece that would bring good money to the shop were it on Ebay.
- Saturday
- General Volunteers for Saturday
- Christmas Team
- A great job for those who love Christmas. We have a large inventory of Christmas merchandise that needs to be ready for display by the end of October. A busy job for a short time.
- Subbing
- General Volunteers - willing to sub
