Where You Can Help

 

While financial contributions are critical to support the staff, the residents and to assure regular maintenance of the Shelter, we couldn’t do much without those individuals and groups that volunteer their time and talents to HIS House as volunteers.

 

You’re probably asking yourself how I can volunteer my time to H.I.S. House. Well, it’s very simple. Just decide where your skills and knowledge can best be used in one or more areas as outlined below. Then fill in the attached Volunteer form with the necessary information and send the completed form to us. It’s that easy!

We have over 15 committees serving various areas of HIS House. These committees and their members plan fundraising events for the Shelter, maintain the Shelter, helps the residents of the Shelter. These committees can always use new people, who can volunteer their time, talents, ideas and skills to making HIS House a better and responsive organization.

 

COMMITTEES

Those Committees who welcome volunteers are listed below including a brief description of what that committee does.

 

Board Members

HIS House is always looking for individuals who can enhance the We have a board member category entitled “Member-At-Large”. A “Member-At-Large” board member is an individual who is an advisory member of the HIS House Board whose responsibilities are may be Assigned by Chairperson of the Board. An individual believes that they would make a good “member-at-large” for HIS House, that individual’s qualifications must be evaluated by the HIS House Nominating Committee. Clerical/Office Work at Shelter

The Shelter can always use volunteer individuals who can answer phones, make and/or put files together, do easy filing or help mail the H.I.S. House newsletter.

 

Special Projects

Is there a special one-time or short term project that you as an individual or your community group/organization would like to volunteer your time, talents and skills to improve and/or help the residents of the H.I.S. House Shelter? A description of that special project will be needed, estimated time period that this special project would take place and the number of volunteers involved will need to be provided for review.

 

 

 

How To Help

 

There are several ways to volunteer at H.I.S. House.

Administrative Volunteer: Do you like clerical work, if so, answering the telephone one will be educated to the need for transitional housing and emergency services in our county and beyond. Ask any of our office volunteers, and you will find that they are experts in helping those less fortunate.

 

RSVP/Mentor a family, single mother, single dad or single individual while they are on their journey towards self-sufficiency. If so, we are looking for Resident Support Volunteers. An RSVP meets bi-weekly with a participant to provide clear direction and motivation by being a listening, supportive friend while the resident works to accomplish both personal and program goals.

Tutor: Placentia Library hosts a “Homework Club” for school age children three evenings per week from 6:45 – 8:00 pm. Contact Nadia Dallstream at the Placentia Library for more information. (714) 524-8408 x 214

 

Groups - H.I.S. House has been the recipient of many group projects. Churches, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts or civic groups in the community have shared their time and talents with the shelter, Whether its cooking meals, hosting craft time, building fences or painting and decorating guest rooms and living areas there is always a project to be tackled.
